Question of the Month: Fashion faux pas or right to express yourself?
Two employees are dressing to look like Barbie by wearing very long false eyelashes and loud contact lenses. They are beginning to look like android/doll versions of themselves. What should we do?
Answer
Our advice would be to arrange an informal meeting with the employees to discuss the situation and be honest and open about it. Depending on the nature of their job roles and whether they are client facing or not, you would need to talk about whether they would need to amend their appearance for meetings. If you have a dress code policy, you could talk through this in more detail and whether they are breaching any aspects of it.
